MPC win 3 major awards for Visual Effects on Life of Pi

MPC are proud to have receive multiple awards for their work on Ang Lee’s inspiring epic, Life of Pi.

MPC took honors at this year’s VES Awards for its contribution to Ang Lee’s critically acclaimed “Life of Pi,” winning Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Motion Picture, Outstanding FX and Simulation Animation in a Feature Motion Picture, and Outstanding Compositing in a Feature Motion Picture.

MPC also took home an Oscar for Achievement in the Visual Effects for Life of Pi.

MPC Provided over 110 shots in native stereo for the film including work on two massive storm sequences: the sinking of Pi’s cargo ship ‘The Tsimtsum’, and ‘The Storm of God’, the dramatic climax to Pi’s journey aboard his marooned lifeboat.

MPC VFX Supervisor Guillaume Rocheron was on stage to receive the awards along with fellow nominees Bill Westenhofer (Overall VFX Supervisor), Erik-Jan De Boer (Rhythm and Hues Animation Supervisor) and Donald R. Elliot (SFX Supervisor).

Prometheus for which MPC was lead vendor, was also nominated in the Special Visual Effects category.

The BAFTA win comes after what has been an extremely successful awards season for MPC and Life of Pi. Earlier in the month the team picked up an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects, a Critics Choice Award for Outstanding Visual Effects and 3 VES Awards, including Outstanding Visual Effects in an Effects Driven Film.

This is the second year in a row that MPC have received the award, having won for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2012.

We are also pleased to announce that ‘The Swimmer’, graded by Director of Color Grading Jean-Clement Soret picked up the award for Best Short Film.
