Technicolor is born

1915

Technicolor is founded by Herbert T. Kalmus, Daniel F. Comstock, and W. Burton Wescott.

In 1912, MIT professors Dr. Herbert Kalmus (pictured above on the left hand side) and Dr. Daniel Comstock join with self-taught mechanical engineering prodigy W. Burton Westcott to create KCW, their research engineering firm that directly led to their exploration and embrace of motion picture color and the creation of Technicolor in 1915.

An early foundational hallmark of Technicolor innovation is the company’s equal commitment to both the acquisition of moving images, through its camera division, and the exhibition of movies through its development of theatrical release printing.
