Approaching 110 Years: Technicolor Continues to Redefine Visual Experiences

August 8, 2024

As we get closer to our 110th anniversary, it’s a good time to both look back at where we’ve been and think about where we’re going next. Technicolor has been a leader in visual effects for a long time, but today, our studios – MPC, The Mill, Mikros Animation, and Technicolor Games – are pushing the boundaries in ways that go far beyond what’s traditional.

We’re all about creating moments that stick with you, moments that turn into cherished memories, shaping lives from childhood through to adulthood, and making a lasting impact around the world.

MPC: Bringing Cinematic Worlds to Life

MPC has become known not just for its visual effects, but for creating entire worlds on screen that audiences can truly get lost in.

Magical Realms: Our work on the Harry Potter film series created stunning visuals and define an entire era of filmmaking. As one of the few VFX companies to work on all eight films, MPC played a key role in bringing the wizarding world to life.

Immersive Storytelling: 1917 pulled viewers right into the action, with visual effects that made every moment feel immediate and intense. The Jungle Book and The Lion King set new benchmarks in animation, bringing photo-real creatures to life and deeply resonating with audiences. And with Prehistoric Planet, we brought ancient worlds to life with world-class visual effects, allowing viewers to experience the age of dinosaurs in stunning detail.

The Mill: Turning Advertising into Visual Art

Creative Pioneers: The Water Babies ad for British Gas set new standards in the early 90’s and our work on Gladiator solidified our place as leaders in visual effects over two decades ago.

Memorable Moments: The Cadbury Eyebrows ad became a cultural touchstone and the Smart Energy campaign, with its photorealistic Einstein, wasn’t just about cutting-edge CG it was about connecting with audiences on a deeper level.

Shaping Culture: Our work on Christmas adverts, like John Lewis’s The Boy and The Piano and Marks and Spencer’s holiday campaigns, has become a beloved part of the holiday season, creating moments that people look forward to every year.

Mikros Animation: Pushing the Boundaries of Animation

Mikros Animation continues to innovate in animation, always seeking new ways to transform the visual narrative.
