Major award wins for VFX across our studios

December 30, 2022

2022 saw multiple award wins, special merits and nominations across our studios. A huge congratulations to our partners, clients and talent for a fantastic year!

This year’s project brought in various wins from some of the industry’s most prestigious awards, including the BAFTAs, Césars, Cannes Lions, Visual Effects Society (VES) awards and more.

Here are some of the highlights:

Australian Effects and Animation Festival

The MPC team received Gold and Special Merit awards at the AEAF for HALO (TV Series), Prehistoric Planet and Finch. Read about their incredible work here.

BAFTAs

The Mill team won a Gold BAFTA for their incredible work on the BBC Olympics’ 2020 title sequence, in the Titles / Graphic Identity category. The title sequence was a collaboration between BBC Creative, Nexus Studios, Factory Fifteen, Art Director Fantasista Utamaro and The Mill London Studio.

The MPC team also received a BAFTA nomination for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, in the Special Visual Effects category. A team of VFX artists, production crew and software developers spread across 3 continents, collaborated to work on some of the movies most complex visual effects and animation.

Cannes Lions

The Mill received four awards, including two Gold Lion’s at Cannes Lions Awards in the Visual Effects and Animation categories for our outstanding work which includes projects such as: Burberry ‘Open Spaces, Samsung ‘Love at First Sight’ and Amazon ‘An Unlikely Friendship’. César Awards

This year, Académie des César introduced a visual effects category and MPC scored a win in the ‘Best VFX’ category for Annette. Annette featured as one of the three most nominated films at the César Awards this year.

Emmys

Chip ‘n’ Dale: Rescue Rangers received the award in the Outstanding Television Movie category at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards. MPC’s Production VFX Supervisor Steve Preeg, VFX Supervisor Axel Bonami, Producers Ben Harrison and Siobhan Bentley, and Animation Supervisor Omar Morsy led MPC’s global team of VFX artists to deliver over 1450 shots for the film.

We’d also like to congratulate Star Trek Prodigy’s Production Designer Alessandro Taini on being recognized for his Individual Achievement in Animation at the Children’s Emmys. The Mikros Animation Bangalore teams were very proud to be part of this great adventure alongside Aaron J. Waltke, Dan Hageman, Ben Hibon and the Nickelodeon teams.

Genie Awards

MPC achieved multiple Genie awards for Around the World in 80 days. This included the Best VFX in a Series and Best Visual Effects – TV Fiction categories. The team also received an award in the Best Visual Effects – Environments category for The Last Duel. Read more about their work here.

Televisual Bulldog Awards

MPC received a Televisual Bulldog Award for Prehistoric Planet, in the ‘Best VFX’ category. The MPC team were on the heels of winning an AEAF for Prehistoric Planet too, bringing in a total of two wins for the project.

Oscars

The 95th Oscars shortlist has been revealed and MPC is proud to have 3 films in the running for Best Visual Effects. Congratulations to the MPC teams who crafted the stunning VFX of NOPE, Thirteen Lives, and Top Gun Maverick.

The 95th Oscars® will take place on Sunday, March 12, 2023 and the show will air live on ABC and in more than 200 territories worldwide from the Dolby® Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards

MPC received a 20th Annual VES Award for Finch in the Outstanding Animated Character in a Photoreal Feature category. Of the 877 VFX shots which were created for the film, more than 60% were of this hero CG character Jeff, and the character provides much of the heart and humor in the movie. The Mill team also won VES awards for their projects with Smart Energy and Verizon, in the Outstanding Animated Character in a Commercial and Outstanding Lighting and Compositing in a Commercial categories.
