Mid-Month Drop: Mufasa: The Lion King, The Zero Malaria Experience, GIFF, Under Paris, and more.

We’re mid-way through November so it’s the perfect time to take a beat and reminisce on our achievements so far! MPC saw the release of Disney’s spectacular final trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King ahead of its much-anticipated release on December 20th, 2024. The Mill set a magnificent new bar for immersive experiences with The Zero Malaria Experience. Mikros Animation are sharing their impeccable expertise in Behind the Mikros Magic, and Technicolor Games remain on unreal levels.

Get your popcorn ready! The captivating final trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King is here.

In theatres December 20th, 2024

But that’s not all from the world of Mufasa: The Lion King… check out this brand-new poster featuring some of the most iconic characters of all time.

Jacques Audiard‘s Emilia Pérez hit Netflix worldwide! Featuring 350+ stunning VFX shots by MPC Paris, this Cannes Jury Prize-winning film has been celebrated as one of this year’s best — and is France’s official Oscar entry.

Dive into the unique collaboration between MPC, The Mill, and Netflix to discover how they created the engrossing world of Under Paris. VFX Producer Loriane Lucas, VFX Supervisor Arnaud Fouquet, CG Supervisor FLORIAN WOLFF, and Mill+’s David Roubah reveal the creative and technical challenges that brought the chart-topping aquatic thriller to life.

MPC created 288 VFX shots for the film, while The Mill designed a jaw-dropping immersive experience that was showcased at the Paris premiere.

With over 102.3 million views and a spot in the Top 10 Most Popular Non-English Films on Netflix, Under Paris was a roaring success.

Tune into Corridor Crew’s latest interview with The Boys VFX Supervisor Stephan Fleet to dive into the visual effects of Season 4, featuring some awesome work by MPC.

Led by MPC VFX Supervisor Craig Calvert and VFX Producer Ngoc Phan, MPC crafted 64 epic shots, showcasing superhuman abilities, and surreal scenes with Ambrosius the Octopus.

MPC were at Animex 2024! Head of Creative Operations, Chris McKenna and Head of Animation, Ben Krolick took audiences behind the scenes, exploring the fascinating creative processes in Animation, CFX, and TechAnim that bring MPC’s memorable characters to life.

The Mill

The Mill are incredibly proud to have launched The Zero Malaria Experience, developed and built by Creative Director, Will MacNeil, and their incredible Experiential Entertainment Team.

This data-led Experience uses new research to allow guests to select different combinations from a ‘toolbox’ of cutting-edge innovations to demonstrate how when used together, many millions of lives can be saved from malaria. Check out the experience below or learn more.

Wonder how The Mill created such a unique data-driven experience for Malaria No More UK? The masterful Experience Team developed the concept, building it in New York in partnership with 4Wall Entertainment, using cutting-edge LED stages and advanced virtual production technology.

In collaboration with Imperial College London, the team harnessed an artistic and data-driven approach to tackling awareness.

Mark Benson, President of The Mill, explained, ‘We have designed the Malaria No More UK immersive experience with the Outernet London space in mind. It’s not an easy story to tell, but we hope we have found an effective and impactful way to do so.’

Lily Li, Managing Director of The Mill’s Shanghai studio, is the Jury Chair for the Film Craft: Animation & VFX category at the Clio Awards.   

A huge congratulations go to The Mill Shanghai! LIA crowned The Mill as Post-Production Company of the year in Asia.

The Mill LA Executive Producer, Hillary Thomas joined the Amazon Women’s Leadership Summit alongside Stacey Rosenson, Rolyn Barthelman, and J.D. Pruess. They discussed the benefits of filming with the Volume Wall for enhanced creative control and output. This conversation also emphasised the success of The Mill’s triumphant partnership with Amazon on the TNF campaign, and the importance of strong post-vendor partnerships.

The Mill brings Bubl back for O2. This time, for a heart-warming festive film, packed-to-the-brim with CG magic bringing the holiday spirit to life.

⭐️ M&S ‘Christmas Gifts

Quintessentially British retailer, Marks and Spencer, returns to The Mill for a fourth year of Fairy magic. The Mill’s festive Fairy, voiced by the iconic actress and comedian Dawn French, is back – this time, with Dawn herself in the flesh!

Mikros Animation

Prepare to unlock the magic behind PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie! Mikros Magic offers an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at how the sensational Lighting and Compositing teams brought these heroic pups to life on screen.

The Lighting team, led by Brune Marie de Miscault, crafted the mood by adding depth and atmosphere to each scene, from high-intensity action moments to softer sequences. Meanwhile, the Compositing artists, under the supervision of Charles Granger, brought together all of the visual elements – characters, backgrounds, and effects – to create cohesive and dynamic images, staying true to the instantly recognisable style of PAW Patrol. 

Ready to explore how SpongeBob was brought to life in the SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run? Luckily for you, Jacques Daigle, Animation Supervisor, reveals just how in this episode of Mikros Magic.

Through a specially crafted rig designed to animate every part of SpongeBob independently, the team balanced traditional animation with advanced technology to give SpongeBob his signature lively presence on screen. From hand-painted brush strokes that add a 2D animation feel, to sketches and storyboards used to stay true to the show, the iconic character unlocked new heights!

At the World Animation Summit in LA, Adrianna ‘AJ’ Cohen, EVP Global Head of Production, shared her expertise as a panelist on successful international collaborations in animation. AJ discussed how Mikros Animation partners with global studios to create ambitious projects and attract top talent.
