Mid-Month Drop: AEAF Awards, Dark Matter, NHL 25, Saudi Film Confex, and more.

We’re halfway through a thrilling October, so it’s time to take a beat and celebrate our wicked achievements so far.

Caroline Parot, CEO Technicolor Group, recently joined a distinguished panel at Saudi Film Confex to discuss how A.I. revolution and technology are shaping filmmaking.

Congratulations to our phenomenal teams behind Napoleon and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts for winning Special Merit Awards at AEAF 2024.

MPC Paris had the pleasure of welcoming Thomas Cailley, Director of Animal Kingdom (Le Règne Animal) to their studio to celebrate the first anniversary of the film’s release.

With no less than 20 nominations and 13 awards – including 4 awards dedicated to visual effects, Animal Kingdom‘s first year has been full of success! Under the supervision of Cyrille Bonjean and Loriane Lucas, our teams collaborated on 150+ VFX shots.

Daniela Forever by Nacho Vigalondo, The Damned by Thordur Palsson and Animale by Emma Benestan were showcased at the SITGES Festival 2024.

Daniela Forever – Oficial Fantàstic Competició 
Featuring 67 stunning VFX shots crafted by our talented MPC Liège teams, this dreamlike film was brought to life under the expert supervision of Boris Kaufmann.

The Damned – Panorama section 
Over 200 VFX shots, skillfully supervised by Barthelemy Beaux and meticulously forged by MPC Liège, intensify the chilling atmosphere of this Icelandic thriller.

Animale – Oficial Fantàstic Competició
MPC Paris, artfully led by Lise Fischer, have vividly brought to life the enchanting universe of this modern tale. Animale won the Méliès d’Argent Award for Best Fantasy Film.

MPC are ecstatic to welcome Doug Bloom as Senior Technology Officer! With over 25 years of experience in VFX, animation, and immersive technology, Doug has worked on groundbreaking projects such as Dr. Strange and Black Panther and led advancements in real-time, AI, and virtual production.

Alexandra Daunt Watney, Global Head of Production, joined a roundtable discussion at SXSW Sydney, ‘Making the UnrealReal: Women in VFX and Animation.’ Stay tuned for insights.

But that’s not all from LIA! Smirnoff ‘We Do Atomic (Silver) and Riyadh Season ‘Knockout Chaos (Bronze) were also recognised in the Visual Effects category.

Dive into an exclusive conversation with Renjith IR and Vinod Gopinathan, skilled DFX Supervisors at The Mill, who played a key role in creating the stunning visuals for the Indian National Anthem. This beautiful rendition was composed by renowned Grammy Award winner, Ricky Kej.

Fashion Week may have come to a close, but The Mill are always crafting luxury, collaborating with top brands and bringing high-fashion stories to life through cutting-edge VFX and post-production. Unlock a world of glamour with this glimpse into their showstopping projects.

⭐️ Nespresso ‘The Power of Aluminum’

Bringing Nespresso’s mission of sustainability to life. The Mill worked closely with Nespresso craft a campaign that not only informs but inspires – showing how small actions can lead to a greener future. 

⭐️ Nina Ricci Venus

A celestial campaign unveils the new Venus fragrance, drawing inspiration from a timeless masterpiece and brought to life by Rebecca Dayan.

Ben Clark has been appointed Managing Director of The Mill London! Ben’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for The Mill, as they continue to innovate across their global studios, leveraging new technologies to drive creativity across multiple platforms.

Mikros Animation

Another accolade from the AEAF Awards! Mikros Animation took home Silver in the Feature Film Animation category for their trailblazing craft on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

Team Mikros were pumped to celebrate the one-year anniversary of PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie. This second instalment won audience hearts and earned the Golden Screen Award for its box office success in Canada, with over $7.7 million CAD domestically and more than $200 million worldwide. 

Adrianna “AJ” Cohen, EVP, Global Head of Production will be present at the Animation World Summit. Adrianna will participate in a session with other industry experts, where they will share their success stories and offer advice on finding the right resources and financing. They will also share insights on expanding your goals and boosting productivity by collaborating with the right co-producers globally.

Doug Bloom has joined the crew as Senior Technology Officer! With 25+ years of expertise in VFX, animation, and immersive technologies, Doug has contributed to iconic projects such as Doctor Strange and Black Panther.  

Shout-out to the unsung heroes! Mikros have been highlighting their most iconic supporting characters to give them a chance in the spotlight.

Vic Diamond – Thelma The Unicorn

A truly unforgettable character from Netflix’s Thelma the Unicorn. Created by the talented teams in Montréal, Paris, and Bangalore, Vic is a flamboyant showbiz figure whose charm and eccentricity leave a lasting impact on the film’s narrative. 

“His transformation for fame is both cruel and true,” says Vincent Duponchel, Set Surf Supervisor, drawing parallels to real-life artists like Lady Gaga who reinvent themselves.

Chance – Ozi, Voice of the Forest

A playful, humorous and energetic character from Ozi, Voice of the Forest. Despite the challenges they face, his optimism and desire to help his friends provide a much-needed breath of hope throughout the adventure. 

According to Vinu Krishna, Principal Artist, Chance is much more than comic relief, “He embodies the innocence and wisdom of a character who, in his own way, teaches Ozi the importance of trusting herself and those around her.”

It’s game time with the worldwide release of NHL 25! Get ready to hit the ice with the latest chapter of EA Sports‘ iconic hockey series. Technicolor Games are proud to have contributed cinematic and gameplay animations, along with environment assets, to continue their decade-long collaboration.

Tokyo Game Show was epic! In case you weren’t able to attend or just want a refresher, VP of Global Business Development, Eric Williams, captured some of his highlights in the reel below.
