October 2, 2024

September marked the start of an exhilarating new season, and here at Technicolor Group we kicked things off with a bang! MPC saw two projects enter the International Best Feature race at the 97th Academy Awards, as the countdown began for Mufasa: The Lion King. Shōgun made waves at the Emmy Awards, teaming up with The Mill to bring an epic show trailer to life, and The Mill India triumphed at the ANN Awards with Life Song. Mikros Animation proved every character is a valuable player by bringing their supporting characters into the spotlight. Technicolor Games hit XDS in style and celebrated the long-awaited launches of NBA 2K25 and EA Sports FC25.

At Technicolor Group, we’re always in the game, so we took a victory lap by revisiting some of our all-time greatest games collaborations. Let’s go🔥

Read on to find out more about what we’ve been up to this month.

MPC

With the countdown on to the worldwide release of Mufasa: The Lion King, it’s time to revisit some of MPC’s most iconic shots from The Lion King (2019).

Reflecting on this VES award-winning work for Jon Favreau’s reimagining of a classic gets us even more excited for Barry Jenkins’ next chapter. Be prepared for another VFX masterclass.

Emilia Pérez and Vermiglio have joined the Oscar race! Emilia Pérez will represent France and Vermiglio will represent Italy in the International Best Feature category.

MPC Paris provided 350+ VFX shots for Emilia Pérez, seamlessly setting the film in Mexico, despite most of the feature being shot on blue screens in Paris.

The MPC Hauteville teams expertly handled the rushes, colour correction, colour grading and deliverables for Vermilglio, beautifully bringing to life the world of a remote Italian mountain village.

A huge congratulations to Farid Sandoval and the entire MPC Concept Art team, who are finalists at the 2024 Concept Art Awards! Farid’s work on the Covenant Priest Uto ‘Mdama from HALO Season 2 has been nominated in the Live-Action Series – Creature Finalists category.

MPC attended the Festival De la Fiction and are proud to have contributed to two stunning series:

A Devoted Friend (Une Amie Dévouée), for which MPC Paris handled dailies management, colour grading, deliverables and editing.

Rivages, for which MPC Paris managed the confo, deliverables and editing rooms.

MPC were in full force at the 49th annual Toronto International Film Festival, with four unbeatable projects being showcased: Emilia Pérez, Daniela Forever, Vermiglio, and Little Jaffna.

This month’s project releases included:

⭐️ Miskina, La Pauvre Season 2

While it seems like Fara has gained control of her life after her grandmother’s death, the truth is she’s hiding her struggles. She deceives everyone—her boyfriend, URSSAF, her mother, and even herself. The Alaoui family, known for avoiding the truth, embark on a journey to confront their past and, hopefully, learn to be honest with each other.

⭐️ Never Let Go

As an unimaginable evil engulfs the world, a mother and her twin sons find safety within their home and the strength of their close bond. But when one of the boys questions the reality of the evil, their united bond is broken, sparking a harrowing struggle for survival.

⭐️ The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol

Picking up where Season 1 left off, Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier are forced to confront old demons. Elsewhere, Genet’s movement gains momentum, driving Pouvoir towards a violent showdown with the Union of Hope in the battle for France’s future.

Since we’ve officially entered spooky season and we’re celebrating the release of Season 2, it’s the perfect time to revisit the gory VFX breakdown from The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

Napoleon: The Director’s Cut is out now, with 48 minutes of epic new footage. Napoleon features remarkable VFX work from MPC, which earned them Academy Award and BAFTA nominations.
