We’re thrilled to share that Mufasa: The Lion King, the highly anticipated prequel to Disney’s The Lion King, has been shortlisted for Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards. This recognition highlights the artistry, innovation, and dedication of our extraordinarily talented global team at MPC.
Directed by Barry Jenkins, the film explores the origin story of Mufasa, one of Disney’s most iconic characters. Our team was proud to play a role in this visually magnificent journey, collaborating closely with Director Barry Jenkins and Disney to deliver a thrilling cinematic experience.
Mufasa: The Lion King enlists Rafiki to relay the legend of Mufasa to young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa lending their signature humour. Told through flashbacks, the story introduces Mufasa as an orphaned cub, lost and alone, until he meets Taka—the heir to a royal bloodline. Their chance encounter sets in motion an expansive journey of an extraordinary group of misfits searching for their destiny. Their bonds are tested as they work together to evade a deadly foe.
Being shortlisted for the Academy Awards is a proud milestone and a reflection of the true creativity and innovation that drive our work.
A huge congratulations to our teams at MPC!
